This Thanksgiving is definitely one we will not soon forget.
First 2 weeks before Thanksgiving Reagan was diagnosed with a really bad case of strep w/ Scarlet Fever. Yep, thought that was dead didn't you? We certainly did. She felt quite terrible and missed an entire week of school. It took all 5 days to get her fever to go away and the rash took about a week. She was so happy to go back to school those 2 days before Thanksgiving.
This year for Thanksgiving we stayed home and spent it with just the 4 of us. It was really nice and we were excited that we actually got to cook our own meal of whatever we wanted, hang out all together and be lazy while watching the Texans game. Well Reagan woke up and we noticed her rash was back. She didn't have any other symptoms so we figured we would just re-evaluate the next day.
Poor punkin!
The girls got to do the wishbone!
Reagan won however had a slight advantage of Dad helping.
The next morning poor Reagan was worse. Not only was she suddenly covered from head to toe and itchy but her face was swollen.
An oatmeal bath helped the itching a bit.
We decided to make a Drs appt which was a bit tough as our office was closed for the holiday but luckily they have an after hours clinic who got us in.
Still in good spirits.
Before we even saw the Dr. another parent and the nurse quickly picked up on what was going on. Turns out Reagan is allergic to penicillin just like her Dad. This didn't cross our minds because she was on Day 9 of her antibiotic but apparently that's possible. It's good to know and was a relief that she was actually sick again. We got a prescription for a steroid and also one for a medicine that would help with the itching but would hopefully not knock her out like Benadryl. Her poor skin took 2 weeks to clear up. Other then being itchy she was a really good kid about the whole thing. With all the warnings about how the steroid may effect her we were prepared. For Reagan it makes her hyper and a bit snappy but was well worth clearing things up.
