Lake of the Ozarks – Part 1

We’re nearing a month ago now and I’ve been stalling on posting this. A year ago we went on a little lake vacation that you may remember. I just looked back to grab the link and wow do the kids all look so small! Well those few days went great with the Davis and Stanard family and we decided that we wanted to make this an annual trip. So we have. This year we headed to Lake of the Ozarks courtesy of John’s family letting us use their lake house for the week. And we decided that we would rent a 15 passenger van and drive up to Missouri all together. So that’s 6 adults and 5 kids three and under in car seats plus all of our stuff in a van for a very long time. But we did it.

Friday night we drove over to the Stanard’s house and loaded up the van and headed for Ft. Worth to spend the night at the Davis house. I have to be honest. That drive felt like it took a very long time and I was very nervous about the next day. I’m not really a road trip person. We got there around 11pm and unwound a bit and went to bed. For our family at least it was a pretty rough night when made me even more apprehensive the next morning. But we were all up, loaded and ready to go at 7am and got on the road.

With only I believe 2 stops for potty breaks and 1 stop in OK for lunch we made it. It was not even as close to bad as I imagined it could have been. The kids were as good as could be thanks to colors, books, movies and games on itouches. They even took naps though of course not all at the same time.

But we did make it. We were able to come in, put down our stuff and relax out on the porch with a beautiful view!

It was an early to bed night and in a new place again it was another challenging night for us again but luckily after that first night the girls got into a groove with the 2 of them sharing a room with me. The next morning started out slow for some except these crazy 2 who went for a run:

Reagan & Sarah, as cute as can be found, a lounge chair and coined the term “summering” that we all used for the rest of the week. In fact, I wish I was summering right now!

Joe serenaded us with his guitar

Abby & Jacob checked out all the toys.

Reagan & Joe attached their Dads

And found a wagon to play on while the Moms went grocery shopping for the week.

That afternoon the weather got a little crazy. By a little crazy I mean there was a tornado siren that went off and we all had to head down to the basement. That was new! All was well though and we headed out to dinner at the Horny Toad.
